NBA Sustainability Pilot "KEEP IT IN PLAY"

The KEEP IT IN PLAY pilot is a collaborative initiative between the NBA and Uber Arena Berlin that tests a circular model for managing game-day food, beverage, and fan waste during the NBA Berlin Global Game 2026 presented by Tissot. The pilot evaluates how reuse systems, improved sorting infrastructure, and on-site behavioural support can reduce waste, maximise reuse, and enhance the fan experience.

Our Circular Game Plan

• Rolling out reusable plates at concessions in addition to the reusable cups already used
• Installing clearly marked KEEP IT IN PLAY Points across the arena
• Deploying a trained KEEP IT IN PLAY Team to guide and support fans
• Aligning backstage washing, sorting and operational systems to create a closed loop
• On-site composter to process organic food into soil which Uber Arena will use for the Fame Forest
• Tracking performance to refine and scale the model at future NBA EME Global Games
